Question
My former boyfriend died after an accidental head injury. No one seems to understand how big of a loss this really is to me.
Answer
Even though you had broken up, you still loved him. It makes sense to me that you're having a hard time especially if you were hoping to get back together.
When the people around you didn't see you as being in a relationship, it's hard for them to recognize the loss. Even if they did acknowledge the relationship you had, it is still hard for others to understand exactly what you're going through.
That's why support groups are so helpful...everyone gets it. I would encourage you to find a local support group as well as getting a copy of the book. Your local hospice, funeral home or clergy can help you find a group.
Hope this helps.
